Reason for Celebration

Tomorrow our nation celebrates its birthday. Visions of backyard barbecues with friends and family congregating around the pool. Someone’s kid that you’re probably related to somehow, loses a hot dog in the grass. A day away from the phone, the computer, the urgent little fires that consume our days. This is an opportunity to sit back and take it easy. Nothing beats a good summertime holiday.
The thing is, there was a lot of work involved in creating this situation. Even before cleaning the grill and setting up picnic tables. I mean the birth of a nation, the battles for freedom, exploration and expansion, taking risks where success was not guaranteed, and following an instinct that told a courageous people that the world offered more than they were currently getting.
Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re doing something pretty amazing too. You’re an entrepreneur or a principal operative, a director or manager, or someone who is blazing a trail off the beaten path. You’ve started something new. It’s hard work, but it’s the most rewarding thing you’ve done. And that is cause for celebration too.
