SEO Series, Part 7: Strong Links

If you’ve been following along this article series about Search Engine Optimization and how your site can rank high in search engines, you’re now familiar with my mantra that it’s all about quality content. But after you’ve created the best content, you need to push it out to the internet. Here’s why:
After looking at content, Google (and the other search engines, which generally follow along) looks at the popularity of your content. How many sites have linked to what you’ve said? The general premise is this: that good content will be shared with others. So in theory, the better your content, the more places it will reside on the internet. So we want to attract as many one-way links as possible to your content pages.

To begin acquiring backlinks you can use, it is imperative that your keywords are chosen specifically for their long and short-tail value. Ideally, your keywords will become the anchor text for any backlinks you are attempting to acquire. For example, if you are looking to rank high for the keyword phrase “Daisy Hill Puppy Farm,” then you need to find other relevant sites to put a link labeled “Daisy Hill Puppy Farm” on their sites. The idea being that if enough backlinks are built, a web site will rank #1 for that specific term.
